Superstars of the Week

We’ve had a great first week back after the holiday break and all the children are working incredibly hard. These children however have shone through.

We have been flying through smaller maths topics this week and these two were particularly good at understanding and calculating the mean averages of sets of data.

We tackled a very different writing style this week and had a go at writing a speech. All the year 6 team were so impressed with the range of issues the children wanted to talk about and many even did their own research at home.

Star Writer ⭐️

Amazing work from these two star writers this week who have both produced brilliant non-chronological reports on the Transatlantic Slave Trade. They went above and beyond to add detail (that they had researched at home!) to their writing. Keep up the hard work!

Superstars of the week

What an amazing first week! We have had real difficulty in choosing just a few for our winners of the week.

Mathematicians of The Week

The two boys have shown some outstanding maths work this week. They have shown a growing confidence in their knowledge and understanding of numbers and their value.

Star Writers

Even though we have not done any extended writing this week, these girls have already demonstrated some excellent ideas and writing skills. Well done girls, keep it up.

Growth Mindset

Thinking positively can have positive results and as a school we are always promoting a positive growth mindset. These four have shown many of the attributes and attitudes that we are looking for.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Today, Y6 started to look at a new text in English – The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Before they could start reading the book, the children made predictions about the text using only the front cover and the blurb. The Y6 children had many questions but most of all they wondered why the author had used the line ‘this isn’t a book for nine year olds’.

Freeze Frames

As we continue our work based on the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, we always try to find different ways of exploring the text. Today we created freeze frames showing the part of the story where the main character, Bruno, hurts himself whilst playing and then helped by someone in ‘striped pyjamas’.

We spoke about the emotions each different character would have and tried to really show that in our facial expressions.

Everyone worked really hard, participated and co-operated well together in their groups

Explore Learning Literacy Workshop

“Last week, we had a special lesson about how to make a persuasive booklet all about the Alps and the extreme sports you can do there. We even had a look at other holiday brochures to get ideas, before we had a go at writing one of our own.” – Blake, Quartz Class.

“When we were doing our persuasive writing, it was all about the different sports you could do at the Alps e.g. you could go skiing, snowboarding, skating etc… It was really fun because we got to cut out pictures and stick them on our sheets, before making them into our own brochure.” – Tiana, Quartz Class.

IT WAS AMAZING! I really enjoyed this activity because we learned the different techniques of persuasive writing, in order to make our own brochure. I also learned there in a place in France called the Alps – I’d love for Explore Learning to come back and see us again!” – Demi, Opal Class.

Coming Home – The Storm at Sea by Tamzin

Dark clouds started to fill the sky as the waves began to grow and climb on top of each other. Little droplets turned into dollops of water. They fell on my wings, weakening them, sending them worse. I carried on, knowing she was waiting for me, for me to come to her. Waves tried to snatch me out of the sky, to gobble me up. If only I set off earlier, if only the hawk hadn’t attacked me, if only I hadn’t rested, then I wouldn’t have been taken through this life-threatening journey. Like battling soldiers, the waves crashed against each other. Some would have given up; others (like me) wouldn’t give up that easily.
